King Kong Blood Parrot Cichlids Imported Specimens

The King Kong Blood Parrot is a man-made hybrid cichlid that was created by crossing different South American Cichlasoma species and Central American midas cichlids. These unique fish have several deformities and an unusual body shape due to hybridization.

Most notably, King Kong Blood Parrots lack a defined caudal peduncle and tail fin. Instead, their body terminates in a rounded shape. Their mouths are permanently puckered looking. Despite these physical deformities, most specimens are vigorous once established in an aquarium.

In terms of coloration, King Kong Blood Parrots live up to their name. Their body is a bright orange-red hue, overlaid with some iridescent green scaling. Some individuals may exhibit a yellow-orange blaze on the forehead. Their eyes glow a distinct fiery red color.

These hybrid cichlids reach 6-8 inches in captivity and have a lifespan of 10 years or more with proper care. Though unable to breed naturally due to their altered form, King Kong Blood Parrots still exhibit interesting parental behaviors like pit digging. A male-female pair may lay infertile eggs.

Despite their controversial origins, King Kong Blood Parrots make fascinating aquarium specimens. Their brilliant coloration and bubbly personality captivates aquarists. Provide them with warm, clean water and a varied diet in an aquarium of at least 55 gallons.
