Red Rainbow Cichlid (Archocentrus multispinosus) in stock with One-day Shipping

Unsexed Red Rainbow Cichlids Archocentrus multispinosus, commonly referred to as the rainbow cichlid, is a brightly colored freshwater fish native to Central America. As their name suggests, these cichlids exhibit a spectacular rainbow sheen over their body when viewed under light. They are popular among aquarium enthusiasts for their beauty and relative ease of care.

In the wild, Archocentrus multispinosus inhabits rivers and lakes in Honduras and Nicaragua. They tend to occupy rocky habitats and hide within crevices, only emerging to feed on small prey and plant matter. Males are highly territorial, especially during spawning periods.

The rainbow cichlid displays an iridescent blue-green base body color with red highlights on the lower jaw and underside. The most striking feature is the dazzling rainbow sheen that dances across their body when illuminated. Males also develop extended finnage used for displays.

Rainbow cichlids reach 6 inches in captivity and do well in a 30 gallon aquarium with rock work and open swimming space. Despite some aggression toward each other, they can be housed with similarly sized peaceful cichlids like firemouths and convicts. Their shimmering colors and spunky personality make them a joy to keep.
